Biggest ever increase in leadership learning recorded

During the last five weeks, almost 3,000 people have met The Institute’s standard in one of the 49 components of its award-winning, e-learning tool, MyLeadership, to support their leadership development.

The number of digital badges awarded to recognise successful completion of a component has risen by 50 per cent year on year. During one two-week period an increase of 74 per cent was recorded.

The component completed more than any other was ‘Self-awareness’ – followed by ‘Building Trust’, ‘Conversation’, ‘Supporting’ and ‘Challenging’.

Kate Cooper, head of research, policy and standards at The Institute of Leadership & Management, said: “It’s so rewarding to see that we’re providing a service that people really need right now. Covid-19 has forced home working, presenting a new set of challenges and really testing leadership capability, as we’ve all had to adapt with very little preparation. People need to learn quickly and we’re definitely seeing that in terms of increased take-up of our training.”

Kate continued: “Forced remote working has provided a steep learning curve for many, needing to acquire skills far more quickly than would normally be the case. MyLeadership offers the opportunity to gain recognition for that real-life, practical development. Additionally, people are identifying specific learning needs to help with the new challenges they’re facing.”

Inspiring Leadership Everywhere daily webinar series connects with record audiences

Similarly, The Institute’s free daily webinar series ‘Inspiring Leadership Everywhere’ has proved incredibly popular. The series has attracted more than 8,000 registrations and downloads since its launch five weeks ago, with a record 745 participants registering for the session on challenging ourselves and colleagues. The most popular webinars focused on challenge and change – ‘Challenging ourselves and our colleagues’, ‘Role of challenge: innovating’ and ‘Leading change.’

New daily webinar series ‘Learn How To’ focuses on what people really want to learn now

The Institute has listened to thousands of people who joined its initial series, to create a new, FREE, daily webinar series (from Monday May 4) focused on people’s main concerns right now. Its ‘Learn How To’ four-week series of live, 30-minute daily webinars will focus on one theme each week: coaching, mental health, building your employability and creating sustainable SMEs. The webinars not only comprise presentations from Institute experts but also ‘Ted-style’ talks, panel discussions and Q&As with expert guests.

To support people’s learning in Week One (Learn how to coach) The Institute is offering free access to the resources library of its unique, online coaching accreditation tool Coaching Conversations for a limited period. A carefully created collection of information on the essentials of a great coaching conversation.

Plus, The Institute is offering everyone the opportunity to submit an audio recording of a Coaching Conversation online, to have their coaching ability accredited, at the discounted price of £99 (normally £175 for non-members) for a limited period (May 4 – 15).

Kate Cooper concluded: “There is clearly a desire from many leaders and managers to look after their teams in these difficult times with particular attention being paid to support mental health.  Maybe this will lead to more compassionate leadership as many managers have got to know their people differently, having gained insight into so many of their staff’s domestic circumstances and appreciated the different demands on their time and energy.”
