Conflict occurs when one person or group perceives that another person or group is preventing them achieving their needs and goals or is blocking them from expressing their values and beliefs in a way that they think is reasonable. Conflict can be toxic, harmful and destructive (dysfunctional), but it can also be a powerful driver of change, learning and growth (functional).
